Food Blog | Kujira Japanese Restaurant Medini Nusajaya

Update (12/07/2021) : Kujira has sadly closed down. At present, nothing has stepped in to replace it.

Really excited to share a restaurant, this one being a RIDICULOUSLY good deal! This is a new restaurant around 5-10 minutes drive away from EduCity, so this is a fantastic place for students to get a cheap Japanese meal!

Kujira Restaurant Medini

Is it Halal?

I believe this is a non-halal restaurant - there is a Char Siu Don in its menu, but for everything else including the sushi, I assume those are quite safe to eat. But of course, eat at your own discretion!

Where it Is?

This is located near the shop lot where the old Nasi Kukus Solo was located. If you’re coming over from the EduCity side, drive to the big flyover roundabout and take the exit before the Subway. Keep going straight past the traffic light and take a right at the next traffic light you see. Keep going straight and you’ll see Restaurant Tuan’s and a bubble tea shop on the left.

Go into that row of shops and just keep going straight past YS Hawker and you’ll see it to your left. It’s not the most obvious shop to see in the world, but you should be able to find it quite easily.

Kujira Japanese Restaurant Medini

I’m not quite sure how to get to the restaurant from the other way, but there are quite a few signs that can lead you on your way. (Free parking available)

Note: This restaurant isn’t on Waze/Google Maps, so the address I put below may not be entirely accurate, but I’ve checked and it is fairly close to where the restaurant actually is (and is the listed address on Facebook)

Address: Kujira Restaurant, 33, Blok H1, Pusat Medini Sentral 6, 79250

Operating Hours:

(Not sure about their operation hours because their social media situation is quite dire, but I’ll leave it as that. )

Kujira Japanese Restaurant Promotion Menu

What it Costs

They have a RIDICULOUS offer, in my opinion, going on at the moment. I’ll just put the context out there that I came here as a party of two and we initially ordered one of their sushi sets (which they said was popular) and one of their promotion donburi bowls. The sushi set, whilst really high in quality (I’m not gonna to deny), isn’t really a meal. That’s why we ended up having to add another donburi promotion set.

What I generally recommend is order the promotion set (although I’m not sure how long it is gonna be around because this is actually such a good deal). We’re talking about RM9.90 - with a soup and no additional tax. Actually crazy, in my opinion.

The two sets that we got are the Shake Don (Salmon Don) and a Tori Teriyaki Don (Chicken Teriyaki Don). The sushi set is the Aburi Set (5 pieces) for RM21. The iced ocha and hot ocha are RM2 each (so if you wanna save a bit on this, you can probably just bring your own water bottle XD.

This meant that our total came up to RM44.80. (But seriously, just get the promotion sets at the back of the menu - not sure if it is just for lunch, but just get that. SO WORTH)

How it Tastes

My Japanese Restaurant rating goes basically like this: Sushi King < Sushi House < Kujira Restaurant. Basically what I’m saying is that for a small restaurant like this, I’m shocked about how good the quality of the food is. The ingredients are undeniably fresh and delicious, ESPECIALLY at the price point.

Aburi Set (5 Pieces) : RM21

Aburi Set (5 Pieces) : RM21

Starting with the sushi set. Really yummy sushi, but I think it is a bit on the pricey side, especially for students (I say this as a student) because we’re talking about RM21 for something that can’t even fill up my girlfriend (who I will say quite frankly doesn’t eat much). Funniest part is that you can tell the moment it arrives that it isn’t going to be enough for a meal. That being said, this is still really yum, good quality sushi.

Tori Teriyaki Set (RM9.90)

Tori Teriyaki Set (RM9.90)

So, for the Tori Teriyaki Don, really yummy as well! For RM9.90, you get a delicious bowl of tender teriyaki chicken, a salad and a miso soup!

Shake or Salmon Don (RM9.90)

Shake or Salmon Don (RM9.90)

For the salmon don, you can tell it is actually pretty darn good salmon as well! The rice is also a good amount of vinegar (it is legit pretty good sushi rice, which in my experience is really hard to find in new restaurants). For RM9.90, good salmon, salad, miso soup and nice sushi rice? Sign me up!

Star Rating

8/10. But this is with the condition that they keep the promotion. This is a LEGIT good place for students and people in general to have for a bit of an atas lunch at a considerably affordable price! EAT HERE! I want this to stay! XD
