Food Blog | Toast & Coffee Johor Bahru

Hi everyone! Didn’t really have enough from my first visit, so I had to pay Toast & Coffee another visit before actually posting up on this blog, and I definitely do rate it pretty highly as a nice cozy place for lunch!

Toast & Coffee Johor Bahru Peanut Butter

Is it Halal?

I’m not 100% sure about this, but I can say that their menu has no pork items, nor any explicitly non-halal things on the menu. I am not sure about whether they are certified halal, but I don’t believe they actually are.

Where it Is?

I think that it is pretty easy to find if you know where Hiap Joo Bakery is. Yes, the one which is overwhelmingly crowded and sells banana bread. But basically it is on the same row, and opposite of the Container Cafe that a few people talk about. It is REALLY crowded during lunch times, so you really wouldn’t miss it if you’re going there during lunchtimes.

Toast & Coffee Otak Otak Fried Rice

What it Costs

My company of three went there for a lunch and had a decidedly heavier kind of lunch and ended up with a bill at RM42.20 (6% service tax). Menu prices are as following in general: toasts (RM2.00 to RM3.50 depending on contents), Salted Egg Chicken Rice (RM9.50), Vegetarian Sweet & Sour Chicken Rice (RM9.50) and a homemade Mee Hoon Kuey Dry (RM7.50).

I can’t quite remember how much my otak-otak fried rice cost, but what I'll say is that the portion for this is just ridiculously huge - almost to the point where it becomes silly to finish it.

I would say it is pretty reasonable given the area. One of the restaurants which has a pretty comfortable ambience (a la air con in all the heat) and generally clean appearance.

Toast & Coffee Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Rice

How it Tastes

I actually really love the toast! I mean, toast is toast, but this is a very yum piece of toast for breakfast! I had the one with peanut butter, and it was full of delicious goodness.

As mentioned before, the otak-otak fried rice is really tasty - but you really get sick of it as you eat more of it. The otak-otak is so-so but the fried rice is fragrant and makes for a decent meal. I had the salted egg yolk chicken rice, and it is kinda what you expect. Unhealthy goodness. Fried really well, and I guess has the nice lettuce to complement it and make you feel like you’re eating healthy when you’re not.

Overall, I would give it my personal thumbs up!

Come here for…

A quick breakfast or a cheap lunch! I would say don’t come here if you’re rushing. Parking is ridiculously hard to get and grabs find it REALLY difficult to get in here.

Star Rating

7/10. A decent meal at a really good price point. You pretty much know what you’re getting when you come here, good old nostalgic food.
