One of the foods that has gone ‘viral’ or is basically really popular in Gelang Patah would definitely be Nasi Kukus, and the reason for this is none other than the restaurant Nasi Kukus Ayam Dara Gelang Patah!

Is it Halal?

Yes, this is a halal restaurant serving up delicious food!

Where it Is

The restaurant is located in central Gelang Patah, on the row opposite KFC. It is pretty hard to find it because it is hidden at a corner beside a kedai runcit, but basically it is on the left side of Medan Selera Iskandar Malaysia, and there’s a mobile shop in the corner where it is located. You want to turn in and go to the row at the back, and you can find it in the corner! I embedded a Google Street View for you guys, in case you don’t quite know where it is. (It was closed on the day that the street view was taken, but it is this very corner).

Address: 19, Medan Nusa Perintis 4, Taman Nusa Perintis 2, 81550 Gelang Patah, Johor

Operating Hours:

11am to 4pm on Weekdays only. Not open for dinners.

What it Costs

I feel like this would be one of the more affordable lunches you can find pretty much anywhere. I personally had their basic nasi kukus - rice, chicken, vegetable and curry sauce (which is pretty much what everyone has, as you pretty much don’t have a choice) - and a teh o ais, and the total came up to be a handy RM7.90.

I would think that a nasi kukus would be roughly RM6, considering most places sell teh o ais at around RM1.80 (on average).

How it Tastes

I guess one of the differences between this place and many others selling nasi kukus would be that this is pretty much actually mixed rice style. What I mean by this would be that they will have the dishes out for everyone, and you can take as much or as little of however you want - and they will charge you accordingly.

Just beware of one thing when you come here. EVERYTHING is fried. From fried chicken, to fried vegetables (so darn delicious, but definitely not for eating daily) to their curry sauce, this place is UBER unhealthy if you ask me.

But I will give the fact that this is a place selling TASTY food. The curry really mixes everything together so it isn’t so dry. The chicken is really crispy, and that’s something that I love. The fried vegetables are just yum! So I will say that it definitely scores in the taste department.

Suitable for…

Coming with friends, coming alone, this is a good place to come for a lunchtime when you are working! Cheap, fast (most of the time), but may sometimes be full - may have to wait for both a seat and for when they run out of chicken.

Star Rating

7/10. Deliciously cooked fried chicken accompanied by a refreshing curry sauce and some nice fried vegetables. Tasty, cheap, but you know it ain’t healthy!
