Food Blog | Yuu Japanese Steamboat & BBQ (日式火锅烧烤) | Eco Botanic
There are SO MANY steamboat restaurants in Eco Botanic. I’ve talked about Thai Mookata Steamboat & Guoma Express, but this is so far my favourite steamboat in the Eco Botanic area. With that being said, on with the review!
Context: Came for a dinner with my girlfriend.
Is it Halal?
No, this is a non-halal restaurant as they serve pork at its premises, so do eat at your own discretion if you’re Muslim/eating with Muslim company (but I guess there are ways to avoid the non-halal dishes).
Where it Is
It is located along the same row as Family Mart and Lemon Tree (a bit further up, almost directly facing Eco Nest Apartments in the middle). Parking is pretty easy in the Eco Botanic area (and free!), so it’s a pretty convenient place to get to.
Address: 19, Jalan Eko Botani 3/4, Taman Eko Botani, Nusajaya, Johor 79100
Operating Hours:
Daily: 12pm to 3pm, 6pm to 11pm
What it Costs
The total for our bill came up to RM89.40 (so around RM45 per person for us). So I’m not going to lie, this is one of the more pricier options you’ll find in the area. But that being said, as someone who will self-proclaim that he isn’t that big of a fan of steamboat, this was a pretty pleasant experience.
The cost comes more from accumulation of dishes rather than a single thing being expensive. The soup is RM4.90 with top-up, the green plates are RM1.90 each (we took 3), the yellow plates are RM3.90 each (we took 6 - so this is the bulk of the cost) and red plates are RM5.90 (we took 2). Note: we took the ramen among one of the plates.
BBQ-wise, we took the Chicken Tail (RM4.90), Beef X 2 (RM8.90 x 2), Pork Belly Enoki Mushroom (RM5.90) and Scallop (RM4.90). You can also choose a sauce - their specialty sauce or the salt (I HIGHLY recommend their specialty sauce).
The green tea is RM2.50 each with free top-ups and there’s a 6% service charge.
How it Tastes
Before I go into the taste, I’ll just say that for a steamboat restaurant, this is definitely one of the more clean and tidy ones I’ve been to - like I don’t feel like I need a bath after eating here XD (if this can be used as a scale for cleanliness).
But overall, the soup is decent - and you can top it up (although I find it strange how they top up to legit half the height of the pot so they have to keep filling up). We got the Tongkatsu soup, and it doesn’t overpower the taste from the other ingredients.
Overall, I feel steamboat is steamboat. You have quite a big selection of ingredients here (which seem pretty sanitary as a whole as well, compared to a lot of my other experiences) - NOTE: I did not get sick the day after XD (Another important scale for steamboat restaurants in particular).
There’s also a small sauce section at the back as well so you can dip your steamboat dishes in there! (a-la Haidilao style)
Onto the BBQ!
The beef is really tasty with their special sauce! Tastes really yummy. Tender, melts in your mouth almost and absolutely delicious! The version with the salt is almost underwhelming after trying it with their sauce, so I would recommend just ordering the sauce version of all their BBQ options.
The rest of the BBQ dishes are also quite nice as well, so I would say that both their steamboat and BBQ are actually pretty yummy!
Star Rating
7/10. A neat and clean place for all your steamboat needs (with a slight price premium). Both the BBQ and steamboat are yummy, so for now, this is my favourite steamboat spot in Eco Botanic.
