Food Blog | Pokego | Eco Botanic

I feel like Poke bowl is something I associate more with hipster cafes in KL rather than Johor, so it’s nice seeing a lot more of these types of casual eateries open up in the Educity area.

Context: Found this on my phone and realised that I hadn’t posted a review about Pokego yet. THIS WAS BEFORE SOCIAL DISTANCING OF ANY SORT. Stay safe and keep washing your hands.

Pokego Poke Bowls

Is it Halal?

My understanding of the halal status of Pokego is that MOST LIKELY it is a halal ingredients, but just no halal certification, because I don’t really see any mention of this anywhere around the restaurant. Don’t take this as advice though and check if this is something that concerns you. But Poke bowls in general are fairly safe.

Where it Is?

It is located in the inner circle around Eco Nest apartments - directly facing the main entrance of Eco Nest. Parking is free and easy in this area, as there is a lot of space for parking.

Address: 43, Jalan Eko Botani 3/5, Taman Eko Botani, Iskandar Puteri 79100 Johor Bahru

Operating Hours:

Daily: 11am - 9pm (11am - 8pm during MCO)

What it Costs

As usual, I’m going to promote Fave Pay (I’m not sponsored, but please to use I19YC to get RM1 off your first purchase) because you can get 5% cashback here! This is pretty good if you live in Eco Nest and plan to eat here more than once!

I would say the average price for the Poke Bowls is around RM18. The prices range from RM15.90 (Tofu Bowl) to RM29.90 (Premium Unagi Bowl), but most of them hover at RM19/20. Shown in this review are the Salmon Bowl (RM19.90) and the Beef Brisket Bowl (RM20.90).

There’s also a sheet for you to fill if you want custom bowls too!

We headed to Off Day for desserts (which you can take a nice evening walk to (when MCO orders are relaxed significantly), so that’s a nice idea for a date if you would like! :)

Pokego Menu

How it Tastes

Just before going into the taste, I would say this resembles the feel of Poke Twins the most (rather than Pokemist or Top Catch Fisheries). The concept is really casual and over the counter. Poke Twins, Top Catch Fisheries and Pokego offer raw fish options (which I appreciate).

Pokego Beef Brisket Bowl

I had more of the Beef Brisket bowl, and it is actually pretty yum. Really tender and just a nice combination with edamame (which I absolutely love in Poke Bowls) and furikake. A pretty nice bowl overall, if you ask me!

Salmon Poke Bowl

My girlfriend had more of the salmon bowl (raw) and I would say that the salmon holds up pretty well. I would probably say the quality is just about on par with Poke Twins (I think raw salmon quality is still highest at Top Catch Fisheries). But the sauce is yummy and just a safe pick for all those who appreciate Poke Bowls in general.

Star Rating

6.5/10. Ambience and quality is just a tiny, tiny bit worse than Poke Twins, but that being said, I still think that this is a pretty good option for nice and healthy dinner in Eco Botanic (which you can’t find that much off in the Eco Botanic Area).
