Food Blog | Come True Cafe | The Starhill | Bukit Bintang | Kuala Lumpur
Nestled in The Starhill and having a beautiful view of Pavillion (and a peek at KLCC), Come True Cafe is one of those Insta-worthy cafes that is worth checking out! With their selection of beautiful food dishes and unique drinks, it’s a spot to consider the next time you make a visit over to Bukit Bintang!
Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post - they’re not paying me to write the article / have any creative control, but they did reach out to me and offered this meal for free.
Is it Halal
Come True Cafe is branded as Muslim Friendly - meaning they don’t necessarily have that halal certification, but they do say that they source halal ingredients and don’t serve and pork and alcohol. I do actually see quite a big turnout among Malays in my short visit here, but as always, eat at your own discretion if this is something you’re concerned about.
Where it Is
It is located at The Starhill, Kuala Lumpur - overlooking the fountain at Pavillion. I personally think that if you’re considering where to park, I think Lot 10 is a pretty good consideration - as on the weekends, it is RM10 for 8 hours and then you have additional charges if you surpass that, which is cheaper than Farenheit and Pavillion parking charges.
If you do visit Come True Cafe, it is also a pretty good chance to visit the beautiful bookstore Eslite Spectrum, as it is located on the same floor at The Starhill.
You can only get walk-in appointments here - and I think generally, it is said that the view is better at night. During the afternoon, it can get a bit hot. You can see a couple of people play musical chairs - initially wanting to sit by the window to take photos before moving into the aircon environment inside, so just keep this in mind.
Address: G36 & L1 01-34, The Starhill, 181, Jln Bukit Bintang, Bukit Bintang, 55100 Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur
Operating Hours:
Daily: 10am - 10pm
Although do kindly note, they do have specific menus for specific times. For example, the rice dish that I will be sharing later will only be available from 12pm onwards and the croissant dishes are only served from 10am - 12 noon. Their signature, I would say, would be the souffle - and this is available whole day around.
What it Costs
I feel like there are a few things that I would need to stress out regarding what it costs - the first of which is that if you do visit Come True Cafe with a couple of people, you would need to order the number of drinks / food items equivalent to the number of people you came with. For example, 4 people need to order at least 2 food items and 2 drink items (or whatever combination of the 4).
The second of which is that one of their key missions is to donate 50% of their net profits to the Water to Africa Project, providing a clean source of water to people in Africa. I think this is a pretty unique initiative and a nice way the restaurant is giving back.
Here’s what is featured on the blog:
Sesame Oil Chicken in Taiwan Style Pasta } RM32
Pan Seared Duck Leg Rainbow Rice } RM49
Caramalized Banana with Cocoa Souffle | RM38
Rhododendron (Coffee with Roselle / Peach) | RM32
Pandan Latte
All with 6% SST Charge on top
I would say if I was taking the price alone vs the food, I would definitely say it is on the pricey side - but I think the big consideration is that you are paying that premium for the view - of which, they do say the night time view is a lot better. It just so happens that my blog is all about food, so just keep that in mind!
You can check out the full menu here (scroll all the way down for the menu in the Malaysian branch).
How it Tastes
The first dish that we had was the sesame oil chicken in Taiwan Style pasta. The first thing I would say is that it absolutely tastes like home. Which is weird because home to me can be Singapore, Malaysia, or Dubai. But it’s a hearty bowl of noodles - not too oily, as maybe you would expect from a dish. A good balance of flavours and a really simple dish that I think everyone would appreciate.
When I think Taiwan style noodles, I would have been thinking more about those spicy flavours, so I would say that this is a good dish to order if you always struggle to avoid those Chinese, homely dishes.
Next up is the pan seared duck leg rainbow rice. I think that the thing that really makes this dish come together is that belacan-like sauce. It’s not too spicy, but it is really flavourful and makes this dish really pop. The duck was also cooked well and I liked the fluffy mushrooms to the side. Although I would say among the mains, the pasta does come out on top.
Next up, I’ll go onto the Souffle. Of course, one of the main attractions of Come True Cafe. I think the Caramalized Brulee probably is the most popular, but our waiter recommended us try their banana with cocoa souffle and I thought it was really nice too. A really rich and delicious cocoa sauce drizzled over a really fluffy pancake, and it is probably the must-have dish to have here. Probably a good consideration if you just want a rest after a long day of shopping.
The drinks are super unique too. We had the Rhododendron - a cold brew with roselle and peach - which won the gold medal as the creative coffee champion in the 2010 Asian Coffee championship. I like the sweetness of this drink - I naturally have a sweet tooth - and because I also do enjoy my coffees too! My girlfriend really enjoyed the pandan latte that she had - this one is a drink unique to Malaysia (most of their other menu items are identical to Come True Cafe in Taiwan).
Star Rating
7/10. I would say this is a solid 7/10. For me, it falls into that category of come once for the experience and the photos because it’s worth it. The view is great, the service was good too and if anything, I would recommend you stop by here if you want a short tea break in between your shopping at Pavilliion / Farenheit.
