Food Blog | Restoran Chuan Kie | Genting Highlands | Gohtong Jaya
I think after trying so much Genting Pork Belly, when I made a stopover at Genting Highlands, I HAD to at least try some Genting Pork Belly. Perhaps the funniest part? I didn’t actually know why it was actually called Genting Pork Belly. I just assumed it was some pork sourced in Genting itself.

Is it Halal
I came here for Genting Pork Belly. This place is not halal haha, no getting around that.

Where it Is
It is located around halfway between Genting Sempah (the McDonalds R&R station) and Genting Skyworlds / Awana Genting. To be fair, I was actually surprised that it is on the same row as another popular Chinese Zi Char place - Loong Kee. From what I see, Loong Kee seems to be the more “Atas” restaurant, but from a lot of places, it seems like the Genting style pork belly is a bit more associated with Chuan Kie.
Was here late in the afternoon on a Monday, so I think that the parking wasn’t too bad, but I can imagine that it will probably be worse on the heavier traffic periods.
Address: Chuan Kie Restaurant, Goh Tong Jaya, 28-30, Jalan Jati 1, 69000 Genting Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia
Operating Hours:
Daily: 11:45am - 10:30pm
What it Costs
This is the breakdown of the bill:
Crispy Genting Pork Belly (Small) - RM28
2 Mixed Vegetables (Small) - RM20
Steamed Egg (Small) - RM12
Rice x 2 - RM5.20
Sugar Cane - RM5.80
SST 6% - RM5.20
Total - RM75.30
Overall, I think that it isn’t cheap isn’t expensive - definitely better value compared to anything you’ll get up in Genting Highlands, so I do think that this is definitely a really good option.
How it Tastes
I think the first thing I should mention is why it is called Genting Pork Belly. It’s actually a way of cooking. It’s about getting the right amount of Dark Soya Sauce, coupled with a really controlled flame - at least as per Chuan Kie. They say that other restaurants can’t quite get that combination right, and that’s why they claim theirs is the superior / original reason why Genting Pork Belly is popular.
Genting Pork Belly, Chuan Kie Restaurant Gohtong Jaya
I would say thart their their pork belly was actually really nice. I’ve tried some that go 100% crispy and it almost turns out too dry, so I actually like their variation. Has the crispiness and a bit of crunch, but still that bit of sauce such that there’s still a lot of flavour.
They recommended us a vegetable dish that was a mix of two vegetables (not in their menu) - so there are your french beans and your eggplant stirfry. A really nice dish, and I actually like their little bits of meat incorporated in the dish. Really tasty vegetable dish.
Chuan Kie Restaurant Steamed Egg
I think their egg dish is perhaps maybe big for two people. Probably not necessary to have so much egg between two people, nothing too special there - just a typical steamed egg dish with nothing too much out of the ordinary.
Star Rating
7.5/10. A solid 7.5/10. Think it’s much more worth than the restaurants up in Genting - don’t think the “Genting Tax” is over the top here, so this is a stop that I can definitely recommend - whether it be a short detour in Genting, or a short dinner from when you’re up at the top.
