Food Blog | Spring / Sakura Themed TokyoTreat Box | TokyoTreat

Looking for a way to get your fix for your Japanese sweets craving? Then this might be right up your alley, as the TokyoTreat subscription box is the perfect way to get your authentic and unique snacks from Japan that you really can’t quite find anywhere else. It really is a fantastic idea for a gift just to explore the variety of snack boxes that they have in Japan.

If you frequent my blog a bit, you might just know that I don’t do too many sponsored posts. I only really take on sponsorships if they at least make sense to me - both in the sense that it’s something that I personally find interesting, or just something I think viewers would be interested in. So full disclaimer, they did send this box to me for free, but apart from that, I’ve not received any other compensation, nor do they have any creative control for this post.

About TokyoTreat

Really like the idea of these kinds of gift boxes and the fact that there are Japanese snacks involves make it all the better! The idea is that they will source for limited edition KitKats, specialty-flavored Japanese chips, seasonal treats, and occasional Japanese sodas that are only available in Japan for a limited time. You can take a look at their monthly offering right over here - https://tokyotreat.com/ .

What’s Inside the Box!

I think what’s nice is that they have a booklet - a menu of sorts - detailing allergen information and what are the general ingredients of each of the snack items.

This is their March Spring / Sakura themed box, which is actually super pretty! The idea is that every month there is a slightly different theme - although the April box is a SakuraNights themed box that looks really sleek and yummy too! But here was what was in the March box:

  1. Poricky Sticks

  2. Blossom-Viewing Chocolate Bites

  3. Crispy Fried Rice Crackers

  4. Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen

  5. Onion Puffs

  6. Peach Mochi

  7. Pistachio & Strawberry Pai no Mi

  8. Sakura Blossom Cake

  9. Sakura Doughnut

  10. Sakura Petal Marshmallows

  11. Senbei Spring Mix

  12. Sour Plum Salt Crackers

  13. Strawberry Shortcake KitKats

I really do these are great picks that really bring out the Spring / Sakura feel from Japan back to your very home.

I think the favourite among the ones I”ve had would definitely be the Strawberry Shortcake kitcats. I would say it’s not really like your conventional kit-kat, it definitely is somewhere of a hybrid of a kit-kat and a cake because it’s not as solid / hard as a kit-kat, and it definitely tastes much more akin to a cake. Really loved it to be honest - although I suspect some people might think it would be too sweet (I have a mega sweet tooth although I try to hide it sometimes!)

The other one that I’ve enjoyed is the Crispy Fried Rice Crackers. Now you’ll be thinking - I picked what is arguably the sweetest (although the marshmallows are probably sweeter), and then I picked what is arguably the saltiest - but I guess that’s the idea of what I personally like - strong flavours.

That being said, I really do think that there is something for everybody, with 13 different options in each of their boxes. The variety is really quite amazing considering you have even a Ramen in this box, and you have sodas in others.

Pricing

Here’s how they’re currently priced (note - all in USD)

  1. Monthly Plan:

    • $37.50 per month.

  2. 3-Month Plan:

    • $35.50 per month.

  3. 6-Month Plan:

    • $33.50 per month.

  4. 12-Month Plan:

    • $32.50 per month.

Naturally, getting a 12 month plan is the most value for money, but perhaps maybe you just want to dip your toes in and try a few first before giving it the full 12 month commitment.

Thoughts & Review

Generally, I think this is very suitable if you are living in a household with a sweet tooth. Really good to share, really nice to bring to the office so everyone can have a bit of everything. For people like me, who live alone, maybe not the best - but as I said, I think this is more for a few people to share rather than one person to struggle to finish all in one.

I think this is a great idea as a gift (think secret santa if the budget is around there), or as a nice treat for everyone in the office! Really is a wonderful way for you to experience the seasonal and wonderful world of Japanese candy all in one wonderfully packed snack box.
