Food Blog | Fat Fook Inn | Mont Kiara
If you’re looking for some legitimately delicious (but guilty-pleasure inducing) food around Mont Kiara, there really is no better place than Fat Fook Inn. This is legitimately a really yummy option for some premium (at least for me) Zi Char style food in Mont Kiara.
This is actually a sister restaurant of The Fat Fish (they’re basically next to each other) - this is a healthier option if you guys would like to try - but this means that Fat Fook Inn gets delicious fish coming to their store too!
Context: Came here with my parents and sister for a hearty lunch. Ended the meal fully stuffed!
Is it Halal?
This is just about as far away from halal as it could possibly be. A really terrible option to go with other Muslim colleagues/friends as pretty much all their yummy dishes are with pork.
Where it Is?
It is located in Shoplex Mont Kiara (opposite 163 Retail Park) and beside 1Mont Kiara. The nearest parking would be the Shoplex Parking lot itself (but it is usually quite crowded despite being a paid parking and isn’t covered (but parking at other indoor parkings would mean you have to walk in the rain to Shoplex itself too).
It is just about as convenient to park at 1Mont Kiara or 163 Retail Park. Both are walking distance away from Fat Fook Inn.
I do highly recommend stopping by at Jaslyn Cakes (beside Baskin Robbins) at Shoplex Mont Kiara for dessert after your meal because their cakes are so darn DELICIOUS!
Address: 15-0-2B, Shoplex Mont Kiara, Jalan Kiara, Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur
Operating Hours:
Tuesday - Sunday (Mondays closed): 11:30am to 3pm, 6pm to 10pm (10:30pm on Fridays)
What it Costs
What I’ll say first is that my family probably (by this I mean they absolutely did) went overboard with ordering because they aren’t back in Malaysia a whole lot - and this is probably the most hearty meal you can find in Kuala Lumpur.
Our total bill came up to RM208 (around RM50 per person) and we ordered one of their lunch sets (We got the Hakka Moi Choy Braised Pork Belly - RM18), a stir fried pork dish, a sweet and sour pork, a salted egg seafood dish, a Hokkien Mee and desserts (red bean pancake and a durian dessert snack). Not to mention we also had 2 bowls of their pork lard rice (and legit when you see it, you can actually feel it clogging your arteries.
Their set is such that you pay RM18 for your main dish, a bowl of white rice, a chinese tea and for certain set lunches, you also get seasonal vegetables/their soup of the day.
All in all, for all the things we ordered and the quality of the food here (and the area that we’re in), this is a pretty good place to go for a big family meal.
How it Tastes
The set lunch is pretty worth it. You get quite a lot of things together with it. The Moi Choy Braised Pork Belly is a little bit underwhelming because the Moi Choy itself is a bit meh, but I think the rest of the dish as a whole works together well and is probably the most worthwhile thing you’ll find on the menu here at Fat Fook Inn.
The best dish for us as a whole was actually the Sweet & Sour Pork. I don’t think much of Sweet & Sour dishes because my sister orders it a lot and often we just get it to please her, but this one here is actually LEGIT. The sauce is the thick kind and the meat is just cooked wonderfully (and it stays crisp and soft a the right places. This one is actually my must order dish here!
The salted egg seafood dish was also good (and this place really doesn’t skip the unhealthy steps because this place is FULL-ON flavour) but it is one of those dishes whereby when you keep eating, you just feel really full, because it makes you feel really jelak.
The pork lard rice is probably worth trying just for the novelty of it but if you’re watching your health, I would highly recommend just ordering a normal bowl of white rice.
The rest of the dishes are also pretty yummy and in general this is a really comfortable place to come with family for a cozy meal to satisfy all those guilty pleasure Chinese foods!
Highly recommend this place!

8.5/10. Really yummy food at an okay-ish price point (for the area).
