Food Blog | Liang Khee Tomyam Mee (槟城良记东炎面) | Mount Austin
For all those looking for a decently priced lunch (as long as you’re not greedy like me XD), Liang Khee Tomyam Mee is a nice option to look at! Similar in concept to Xiang La La (except this one is in Tomyam Soup), this is a pretty yummy place to grab a nice lunch.
Is it Halal?
No, this is a non-halal restaurant as they serve pork among their ingredients. But I would assume there are ways to choose all the ‘halal ingredients’, but as usual, eat at your own discretion.
Where it Is?
It is located in Mount Austin, near Hua Mui Restaurant and Sunway College in general. In general, parking should be quite easy to get (eventually) - although I’m not sure whether you actually have to put a coupon for parking here, as it isn’t exactly so clear.
Address: 8, Jalan Austin Heights 8/9, Taman JP Perdana, 81100 Johor Bahru, Johor

What it Costs
There are 2 ways to go about ordering your food here. They have a number of pre-selected ‘sets’ that you can choose. If you want to make sure you don’t overspend, this is the way to go. That’s because the price can suddenly scare you if you go ahead and select your own dishes.
That’s because you don’t exactly know the price of each exact ingredient, but the general trend seems to be that the scallop are really expensive (RM1 per piece). I took upwards of RM24.50 worth of food (RM21.70 for my bowl of noodles and RM2.80 for my drink.
A friend I ate with ended up with a set for RM13 and others who took the self-selected set initially ended up with bills of ~RM20 before removing some ingredients (I was too hungry to remove things from my bowl XD).
But for the self made bowls you basically select the ingredients, then choose a broth and noodles to go with it.
How it Tastes
The broth is definitely the star of this dish - lots of flavour and you can really taste that lemongrass permeating through the dish! In general, I would say the sausages and the luncheon meat go quite well with this pairing (but that could just be personal taste if you ask me XD).
But this place is definitely price-heavy if you add things. Put it this way, RM13 can get you just about as full as a bowl that I got (in my opinion), so don’t add too much and your wallet will be safe.
At the end of the day, the taste is similar to Xiang La La but with the Thai twist coming from the Tom Yam broth (which at the end of the day is the hero of the dish here). Oh, and the Fa Cai roll is actually really nice together with this!
Star Rating
7/10. A solid 7/10, but I’m personally a bit peeved at the price. At the end of the day, my advice is TAKE LESS. I ended up really full, and RM13 really can get you as full (more or less) compared to my RM21 bowl XD.
