Food Blog | Coppola Family Pizzeria & Wine Bar | Horizon Hills
I’ve been longing for a good pizza since it’s been a pretty long time since I’ve had one, so I guess that’s why I’m sharing Coppola, the Italian Pizzeria at Horizon Hills!
Context: Came here for my birthday dinner with my girlfriend :) .
Is it Halal?
This is a non-halal eatery with pork and wine on their menu, so if you are concerned about this, eat at your own discretion. There are, however, items on the menu that mean you can avoid these dishes, such as their alfredo pizza.
Where it Is
It is located in a corner lot among the shop lots inside Horizon Hills. This means that you have to go past the main guard post (you basically just drive past that guard post, no need to stop for temperature or anything) and go to the shoplot area.
Parking is free and readily available, so it isn’t really something that you should be concerned by.
Address: 1, Jalan Hijauan 3, Horizon Hills, 79100 Nusajaya, Johor
Opening Hours:
Daily: 12pm - 12am (Except Mondays: 3pm - 12am)
What it Costs
I think that what you NEED to know is that lunch is a lot more worth here. From Mondays to Saturdays they have a buy one free one pizza, pasta offer (I’m not too sure whether it has to be different - i.e. has to be 2 pizzas/pastas) but I feel like that’s something you should keep in mind.
They also have a buffet offering on Sundays where it is RM150 for brunch - both hot kitchen and a spread available comprising of food from their group of restaurants (Mexican, Turkish & Italian) with free flow wine - so that’s something to keep in mind if you’re interested.
Their high tea special is (if my memory doesn’t fail me) RM25 per person - minimum 2 people and they have those platters with snacks for high tea.
But onto what I had. Me and my girlfriend shared a “The Godfather” individual pizza (RM42) and a Linguine ala Vongole pasta (RM48). The total of the bill came up to RM104.40 after taxes and everything else were considered. They also gave a complimentary dessert in their Tiramisu - do check because I believe that they offer it if you leave a review on their Facebook page! (Tiramisu is RM22 a-la-carte)
What I’ll say is that I think as a value standpoint from a Johor Bahru perspective, the price is a bit steep. This is pretty much why I say that the lunch could be more interesting if you’re worried about this standpoint. I think given that the portions are on the smaller side and at that price point, it is one of my only small gripes about Coppola.
(But do note that this feels like a restaurant more catered to a Singapore currency conversion crowd)
How it Tastes
I think it tastes great! I’ll start with the pizza first and I really enjoyed that combination of a tasty provolone-mozzarella cheese. The cheese is definitely striking whilst that chorizo is really tasty as well with that mix of spice and meatiness. But overall, a good quality pizza that fixed my craving for a good pizza! Definitely a pizza that I enjoyed!
Onto the pasta and I would say that in comparison to other Vongoles, this one feels less strong on the wine side. Overall, this is a light pasta with decent scallops and clams that I think most people would enjoy. But summary of this: great pasta & seafood with a nice, light sauce to accompany it.
What I’ll say is that they make a MEAN tiramisu. Fluffy and really tasty so I absolutely think that if you can get one in exchange for a Facebook review, PLEASE do it! They even decorated it in view of my birthday because my girlfriend mentioned it along the way, so I do appreciate the staff here! (They came in singing which is what I feel some restaurants are almost shy to do XD)
Star Rating
7.5/10. Really cozy place with very attentive staff, good food. I would rate it higher if either the portions were bigger or price point was just so slightly lower, which is why I would say this is a 8.5/10 IF THIS WAS LUNCH (Because of the 1-for-1). But, overall, this is a good place to go for occasions like birthdays or anniversaries. Really cozy.
