Food Blog | Daikan Ramen | DIFC Dubai
A humble spot for Asian food at a cheaper price point is none other than Daikan, with their assortment of ramens and titbits.
Where it Is
Daikan is located at Damac Park Tower @ DIFC. It’s located in the middle area of the DIFC towers. Not all parking is free at DIFC, so you might want to drive around in a circle if you want to find free parking (there is one near Carrefour DIFC).
Address: Daikan Ramen - Damac Park Tower - Damac Park Tower - DIFC - Dubai
Operating Hours:
Daily: 12pm - 11pm
What it Costs
My family of 4 ate for a total of AED265. Here’s the breakdown of what we ordered:
Chef’s Special: Spicy Chicken Broth Ramen (AED65)
Shoyu Chicken Broth Ramen X 2 (AED50 each)
Chicken Katsu (AED35)
Takoyaki - 6 pieces (AED35)
Chicken Karaage (AED30)
Note: These are net prices with taxes accounted for.
I would say it is a fair reflection of what a family 4 would usually order - in the sense that although we ordered a lot of appetizers, we only ordered 3 ramen. I would say AED66/person is roughly what you would pay on a per person basis.
How it Tastes
I think one of the key characteristics of this place is that they have hot (as in really hot) food that is perfect for a winter’s day. I would say I particularly felt this with the chicken karaage. What I can say is that Daikan does fried titbits REALLY well.
The karaage is really tasty, with a nice crunchy exterior and a fantastic bite that is great to chew on. I would say that the chicken katsu is really textbook as well, really tasty and with a nice crunch! What I have to admit is that although fried, it doesn’t have that ‘jelat’ (fatty in Malay) kind of feel.
I would say that takoyaki is alright - not bad, but nothing spectacular - but makes for a good and simple bite before you go for your ramen!
I had the Spicy Chicken Broth Ramen. I would say I’m more accustomed to the more hearty pork broth style ramens - although I have eaten my fair share of chicken broth ramens as well. But their broth is very clean tasting and refreshing.
Their ramen noodles are also cooked down really well and their toppings are pretty yummy. Although I have to admit that chicken chashu has nothing on pork chashu (but can’t really do anything about that here haha). I would also say that spice wise, I would say that most people would be able to tolerate the spice levels on their spicy chef’s special.
Star Rating
7/10. I would say Daikan is a lot about a casual ramen spot where you can get a lot of value from your meal. I would say that their chicken karaage actually stood out for me, but their ramen is pretty good as well. I almost wish there was an opportunity to taste what they would do with a pork broth and pork chashu, but given the culture here, it’s understandable.
