Food Blog | The Hong Korean Noodles | Eco Botanic

Today I’m sharing a bit more about my food adventures around Eco Botanic. This time it has brought me to The Hong! This is a Korean noodle shop that has been around for quite a while, so here’s what I thought of the place!

The Hong Eco Botanic

Context: Came here for dinner with my girlfriend, we ordered the set. This is the second time for her and first time for me trying this eatery. She personally feels as though the Yaggiwoodong isn’t as good as the Jajangmyeon, so I guess keep that in your mind when deciding.

Is it Halal?

I would say that like most Korean eateries, this is one of those you’d probably want to avoid if you’re going to eat with Muslim friends/you’re a Muslim yourself. There’s pork laced into a lot of the dishes on their menu, so I would just say to stay on the safe side - otherwise, eat at your own discretion regarding this.

Where it Is

The Hong is in the square of shops surrounding EcoNest apartments and is located on the same row as Lemon Tree and Vanakam (it’s between these two restaurants). Has a very clean white and orange exterior, so it is fairly easy to spot.

Parking in the area is free and usually pretty easy to get.

Address: No 21, Jalan Eco Botani 3/4 Taman Eco Botani 79100 Nusajaya, Johor

Opening Hours:

Tuesday - Sunday 11:30am - 9pm

What it Costs

I think what is important that I think I should put here is that the prices on Grab Food are pretty inflated. (I guess to account for packaging, etc.) For example, the Jajangmyeon on Grab Food is RM20, whilst in store it is actually RM15.

The set that we ordered (Jajangmyeon + Fried Pork for 2) costs RM47 so ~RM23.50 per person costs RM61 on Grab Food. Granted, they have a personal delivery Whatsapp number (013-401 4596) - which they deliver within 10km, but I’m personally not sure about delivery surcharges.

The Hong Jajangmyeon

I put the menu below here (taken from the FB page), which is the same as the one I saw in store.

You also get some kimchi, pickles and a jug of water to complete your meal. (Made the error of forgetting to take a picture of my receipt so I can’t quite remember if there was any additional taxes on top, but the price is basically around RM50 give or take).

How it Tastes

I actually think the set is a pretty good balance as a whole. You have the vegetable component from the kimchi and pickles, you have carbs coming in from the black bean noodles and you have the pork coming int to complete the combination.

First off, the noodles. I would say that this is a good Jajangmyeon to try if you haven’t been exposed to it before. In my experience with Jajangmyeon, usually it has a more strong and pronounced taste that not everyone is a fan of (my girlfriend isn’t personally a fan of Jajangmyeon and still enjoyed this version).

Fried Pork

The black bean taste isn’t that strong, the noodles in general are tasty and I would say that this is a version of Jajangmyeon that is pretty well suited for Malaysian taste buds.

Next up, the fried pork. It is served with this yummy sweet and sour honey based sauce. There are two ways to eat this in general - and this is where my KDrama knowledge comes in handy. This is Seo Hyun Jin from Let’s Eat 2 demonstrating! (Skip to 0:15 and turn on captions)

Both ways make it very tasty. This is honestly my first time actually trying this dish and I must say this is so addictive! My thoughts are that this is probably on the big side for 2 people. I would almost recommend going as 4, ordering a 2 a-la-carte noodles and one 2 person set, sharing the pork among 4 because admittedly, there is a lot of pork to go through.

Sweet Sauce Fried Pork

But the combination of pork and their sweet sauce if so yummy.

Star Rating

7/10. A pretty safe spot to choose for dinner if you want something (in terms of budget) a bit above your usual dinner meal. Love the pork, the Jajangmyeon is pretty decent as well, so I would say this is a pretty nice dinner spot in Eco Botanic!
