Food Blog | Shinsho Ramen | Eco Botanic

I’ve seen this ramen place a few times when I’ve been around Eco Botanic, so I thought it was worth a try one of these days, so I made a trip there for dinner with my girlfriend! Here’s what I thought of the place!

Is it Halal?

This is a non-halal eatery with pork on the menu (chashu and pork ribs among a few other dishes), so I would say that this is definitely one of those to avoid if you’re coming with muslim company.

Shinsho Ramen Eco Botanic

Where it Is

Shinsho Ramen is located in the square of shops surrounding EcoNest apartments and is on the same row as Kang Bee Hong at Eco Botanic - but further down, closer to Tang Ren and Quu. Parking is free and plentiful, so it isn’t too much of a problem on most days (except rainy days, because it isn’t covered parking).

Address: No 20, Jalan Eko Botanic 3/6 Taman Eko Botanic Iskandar Puteri, 79100 Johor Bahru, Johor

Operating Hours:

Daily: 11:30am to 10pm (Closed on Tuesdays)

What it Costs

My biggest issue with Shinsho Ramen is WITHOUT doubt the pricing. What you see on this post - basically 2 portions of ramen and 2 cups of sencha (green tea) came up to RM75.90. I would have no problem whatsoever if it was a premium ramen that was delicious, but I guess you can get the gist of where I think it falls short.

Soya Chashu Ramen (RM30)

Soya Chashu Ramen (RM30)

I had more of the Shoyu Chashu Ramen (RM30) and my girlfriend had more of the Signature Black Garlic Broth Ramen (RM29). On top of that you’re talking about a sencha worth RM5 per cup. There’s also a 10% service charge (RM6.90) on top, bringing it to the RM75.90 mentioned above.

As I said, I would have NO ISSUES if it were premium ingredients with premium execution. My simple opinion is that it is not.

How it Tastes

I’ll start talking about the Shoyu Chashu Ramen, which I had more of. For starters, the chashu piece is so thin and small. No fatty bits at all, so it really is a very underwhelming protein component (which I would say is something I almost never criticise).

Next, the broth tastes very diluted - it has barely any flavour, making it a very mediocre ramen at best and then even the noodles don’t have that QQ quality to it. Barely any springiness to them at all. (the noodle part applies to both of the ramen we had). Even the egg is very poorly done, so quite frankly speaking I’m just not a fan of the ramen overall.

Black Garlic Broth Ramen (RM29)

Black Garlic Broth Ramen (RM29)

In general, for the Black Garlic Broth ramen, I have the same sentiments. Although it smells like a very hearty broth and a delicious bowl of ramen, the taste falls really flat. In the end, there isn’t much taste in the broth and the quality of the bowl of ramen itself is pretty poor.

Star Rating

4/10. That being said, the service is still good and the restaurant is clean and comfortable. But at those prices, I expect a MUCH BETTER bowl of ramen. If you follow my blog, you would know that I barely put anything below 5 because it suggests something I wouldn’t go and try again - but this is really one of those things I don’t really intend on trying again.
