Food Blog | The Farm | The Sphere | Bangsar | Kuala Lumpur

Today on the blog is a restaurant that has always been at the back of my mind - it seems like there are a few different names for it - The Farm, The Farm Foodcraft, The Farm Restaurant. You get the idea. It’s located at The Sphere in Bangsar South, and this is what I thought of it!

The Farm, The Sphere, Bangsar South

Is it Halal

Their concept is a farm-to-table concept, using fresh ingredients to bring to life your meals! Unfortunately, looking everywhere it looks like they don’t have official halal certification. But, from what I understand, they do source their ingredients from either their very own urban farming lab or local farmers and vendors that are halal suppliers. But as always, if this is a concern of yours, do eat at your discretion.

Where it Is

Honestly, this was the first time that I’ve ever been to The Sphere, but I have to admit it is pretty interesting. Lots of restaurants - although a lot are on the pricier side - and bars for you to enjoy. A generally very pretty place to visit as well. One plus point is that there is free parking if you spend over RM50 - something pretty easy to do if you eat at The Farm, so don’t forget to keep the receipt and tap your Touch n Go card at the information counter outside the supermarket (Aeon) the floor below The Farm.

Don’t ask me why every day has a different timing, I don’t make the rules. XD

What it Costs

Came here for a date and the bill came up to RM112.15 and I won’t deny it. This place is a bit on the overpriced side. Here’s the breakdown:

The Farm’s Nasi Padang: RM38
Tamatoa (This is seriously how it is spelled in the receipt) Baked Cheese Rice: RM36
Mas Milky Cado (Limited Time Drink): RM6.70
Matcha Latte: RM16
SST, Service Charge, Rounding: RM15.45
Total: RM112.15

A few notes about the pricing here. Water is not free, it’s something like RM5 per bottle (can’t quite remember if it is refillable) - which explains ordering the drinks. The limited-time drink won’t be available when you visit unless they bring it back.

How it Tastes

Despite all I say about it being overpriced, I do actually think the food is pretty good. The baked rice was my favoured dish. Tasty, lots of tomato flavour, and a lovely combination of soft shell crab and tiger prawn. Honestly, a dish that really works really well together. Not overly cheesy well, so those that are a little scared of cheese can actually enjoy this dish as well!

Tamatoa Cheese Baked Rice

I would say the nasi padang is so so. You can actually choose either fish or chicken, and we went with the chicken option. I actually like the curry chicken a lot. Lots of flavour, rich sauce. The rice platter otherwise maybe falls a bit flat for me. Just feel like the choice of vegetables could be more flavourful or refreshing. Maybe I would just make that everything apart from the curry is so so, so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this dish.

Sorry, the pictures of the curry are so-so, but seriously, that is the best part of the dish!

Drinks are nothing that I will gloss over just because I wouldn’t say they particularly stood out.

Star Rating

7/10. Honestly, this isn’t really a place you go in a small group. This is a place that you reserve for 10+ people to enjoy altogether - because even when I go in, I can see: everyone else here is having an event among quite a big group. They even have a separated area which is the nicer indoor area more for private events - so you can really see that’s the crowd they’re going for.

Food-wise, can’t complain, a tad overpriced, but I do think the food is still pretty good.
