Food Blog | LI Restaurant | Damansara Jaya | Petaling Jaya | Malaysia
Coming to you this week from the Damansara Jaya area, this time it is LI, or 力 in Chinese. This was for a teambuilding kind of lunch for my company, so this round I was responsible for picking out the venue - and this is what I went with in the end. This was what we ate for 3 (of course we tried to maximise our budget haha, so by no means is this a normal 3 person meal).
Is it Halal
This is a non-halal restaurant, as listed on their TableApp reservations website. There are pork dishes here and they do serve alcohol here, so if this is something that concerns you, this isn’t the place to be.
Where it Is
I think what was surprising for me was how hidden it kind of is. You can’t identify it easily from the outside, but it is on the lane facing Atria Mall. Just follow along with GPS and you should be able to find it quite easily. It is not a very obvious sign, but it is one of the only restaurants in that row of shops.
You can park anywhere around the square surrounding Atria Mall or Atria Mall itself.
Address: 47, Jalan SS 22/23, Damansara Jaya, 47400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Operating Hours:
Daily: 12pm - 3pm; 5.30pm - 10pm (Closed on Mondays
What it Costs
As again, what I’m going to show is not a fair reflection of what 3 people would usually order here. We are kind of on a mission to maximise budget here, so do keep that in mind. Here’s what we ordered:
Pork Toast - RM20
Charred Cabbage - RM25
Chicken Dumplings - RM22
Pulled Pork Pasta - RM34
Pork Shoulder Chop - RM62
Fish of the Day - Market Price (RM47)
Pandan Semifreddo - RM26
Bruleed Figs - RM26
Assorted Alcoholic Beverages - RM188.30 (2 Ciders, 2 glasses of Wine, 2 Cocktails)
Service Charge (10%) and Rounding - RM45.15
Total: RM496.45
I wouldn’t say that it’s very cheap or expensive, but I think it’s priced just about what I expect for this kind of meal.
How it Tastes
So, off to the most important part: taste! Starting with their Pork Toast with Chilli Mayo. One of my favourite dishes among them all. Love the crunch as well as the chilli mayo that it is accompanied with. Not too spicy sauce with a very nice starter in their pork toast!
Next up, the charred cabbage. I feel like this dish is deceptively big. I would almost definitely say it should be eaten in a group of more than 3 people - as this was one of the dishes that we struggled to finish. I would say it is so-so, the sauce has a nice umami twist to it that makes the dish as a whole nice to eat, but I wouldn’t say it is a must order item.
I think the chicken dumplings were pretty good. Nicely presented, lots of flavour, so I think it’s a nice and simple dish that most people would appreciate.
The pulled pork pasta had a nice garlic kind of aroma to it, and I like that the sauce is not really on the wet side but on the more thick side. I think it’s a nice kind of fusion twist to it, as it is definitely very Asian inspired despited it being a pasta dish.
Their fish of the day was a seabass and I thought it was nothing I would scream about, I guess. Cooked well, no complaints or major compliments I would give.
I think the pork shoulder is a bit overpriced considering the portion served, but otherwise, I think it’s a pretty nice dish for sharing too. The peanut chilli sauce almost makes it a Satay-esque kind of dish, which was interesting.
I was pleasantly surprised by the desserts and they were both beautiful and a nice way to end the meal! I think the Pandan Semifreddo was the nicer one for me among the two that we ordered (I believe there are only two on the menu). Really pretty and not too sweet, which makes it a nice way to end the meal.
Star Rating
6/10. I would say decent, but nothing much that really stood out, no one dish in particular that I would return for. However, that being said, it is still a cozy place for intimate meetings with a smaller crowd with dishes that are nice to share, so I think it’s a good option in that respect.
