Food Blog | Tang Ren 糖人 | Eco Botanic
Today I’m sharing a pretty neat breakfast/branch spot in Eco Botanic serving up delicious Malaysian food for you guys to feat on! From nasi lemak to mee siam and kueh-kueh, this place is a great option to get your breakfast fix!
Context: Came here for brunch with my girlfriend!
Is it Halal?
This is a non halal restaurant with pork on their menu - but I say this with the disclaimer that you can probably order ‘safe’ options like a simple nasi lemak with fried chicken or their mee siam. But as always, eat at your own discretion.
Where it Is
It is located on the same row as Kang Bee Hong, but it is located all the way at the back (a few blocks in front of Kuu, which is located at the corner). Parking is usually free and easy so not too many concerns on that front.
Address: 6, Jalan Eko Botani 3/6, 79100 Gelang Patah, Johor
Operating Hours
Daily: 7:30am to 4:30pm (Closed on Tuesdays
What it Costs
Me and my girlfriend ate for RM22.90 (but I would say not everyone will probably order the Red Bean Soup, so a fairer reflection of our meal here would be RM17.80 if you take out the Red Bean Soup).
The breakdown of our meal was like such:
Mee Siam RM5
Nasi Lemak Curry Pork Ribs RM12.90 (I believe it it RM5 for the normal Nasi Lemak)
Black Glutinous Rice with Red Bean Soup RM5
No additional taxes on top - Total: RM22.90.
But do note that there is a set option - I believe it is RM7 for a nasi lemak/mee siam, a toast serving and a drink (I can’t quite remember what drink it was, but we had a set on another visit to Tang Ren but I can’t quite recall XD)
How it Tastes
The other day I talked about how I tried Zhu Jia Nasi Lemak (Bukit Indah) and lamented on how it isn’t really nasi lemak. My first thoughts when I tried this nasi lemak is that this is a pretty decent nasi lemak. Not overly fatty, but there is a fragrance to it which I think nasi lemaks in general NEED to have.
They have a decent sambal to go with it as well - a good balance of sweetness, spiciness and savouriness, but for me the big winner is that curry. A nanyang style curry that definitely reminds me of very Singaporean flavours (I say that because I was brought up in Singapore). It’s thick, hearty and most importantly, scrumptious, making it a really yummy curry to chew down on.
Next up, the mee siam. In general, I don’t think you can go wrong with mee siam most of the time, and this is one of those. A really safe mee siam that would go down well with most. My sentiments are echoed towards the red bean soup because it is a staple. A safe, hearty red bean soup.
Overall
7.5/10. Pretty good value and is almost what an ideal brunch/breakfast looks like for me. You also have the kuehs which I haven’t really gotten around to trying, but ultimately this is a good, semi-decently priced offering (considering the location) spot for getting your breakfast fix!
